Curio Spice Co's newest release comes from an exquisite species of rose sourced directly from the Dadés Valley of Morocco. The Damask rose is believed to have originated botanically in the Middle East, and made its way centuries ago to North Africa via traders. There it found a perfect climate in the desert oasis of the Dadés Valley, now referred to as The Rose Valley.
Curio Spice Co imports whole, organic rose buds from a women's coop and blends them to a fine powder mixed with fair trade cane sugar. Grinding the rose buds in small batches results in the most vibrant aroma from these famous roses, boasting a dense, sweet flavor. In combination with the caramel notes of the cane sugar, the resulting blend offers an astounding floral experience that is unique, original, and not overly perfumed. Use to macerate strawberries or other berries, rim cocktails, add to lemonade, sugar cookies, shortcakes, or sprinkle over grilled pork chops.

Curio Spice Co. started in a saffron field in Northern Greece. Kneeling in the dirt to help hand-harvest the delicate flowers that give the world’s most valuable spice, Curio founder Claire Cheney began a curious journey to understand how, as humans who once revered spices like Gods, spices have been relegated to dusty warehouses where they sit for years before reaching kitchens. Spices were grown and traded for thousands of years, but recent history shows a declining respect for land and people and more a celebration of conquest, trade monopolies, and exploitation. Since 2015, the Curio team has been working to change this narrative and the way spices are produced and traded while creating unique spice blends that celebrate a sense of place.

Curio Spice Co.'s mission is to improve the livelihoods of spice farmers and inspire culinary creativity. Curio Spice Co. specializes in directly-sourced spices, sourced locally from New England as well as from smallholder spice farms around the world. Curio Spice Co. pays above Fair Trade price – sometimes as much as ten times the commodity rate – for spices that burst with flavor. Curio Spice Co. gives back through fundraising efforts via the Curio for a Cause campaigns, which support gender equality, climate resilience, and community empowerment. Curio Spice Co. instills in every product a respect for the land and the farmers who grow the spices, alongside a sense of wonder for the rare flavors available. Curio Spice Co. is an independent, woman-owned certified B-Corp® and benefit corporation.
