In 1872 Henri Frapin added two towers to Chateau de Fontpinot, completing construction to the Frapin family residence in the Champagne countryside that had originally started in the thirteenth century. On Sundays he loved to relax in the garden opposite the property, which was right above the Frapin Cognac production facility, surrounded by the woodlands, rivers and pastures where he was born and which were in his blood. But what he most enjoyed was when his son would join him around 11am, just as the sun’s rays were warming up the moist earth and the Spring breezes carried the refreshing fragrances of the nearby citrus groves. Henri served his son an imported Cardamom tea, with the spicy aroma wafting around them, and they would embark on a game of chess. Both players were filled with the excitement of competition, and strove to checkmate the other, but at the same time they wanted to put off the inevitable finale to prolong this special time together. This was the bridge between two generations and the connection of father-son affection and respect that would bond them together forever.
